2019 Husqvarna Vitpilen 701

The Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 Aero Concept points to a possible future for the neo-retro lineup, or Husqvarna’s possible design language.

Husqvarna already had us excited with the debut of the Svartpilen 701, then it took the wraps off this stunner. This is the Vitpilen 701 Aero Concept. It’s a peek at one possible future for both the brand and the segment. It’s a modern faired sportbike that doesn’t so much look retro, but speaks to an alternative path where sportbike design could have gone from the ’70s on. Or where sportbike design should go.

The look flirts between the past and the future from a technical and design standpoint.

The graphics and paint are crisp and stark. The whole concept is pulled around its mechanicals as tight as possible, prodding you to get as tucked in as possible too. And those mechanicals, as Husqvarna is hinting, are the same single-cylinder chassis and engine found throughout the company’s neo-retro lineup.

TFT display shows Husqvarna’s dedication to blending current functionality inside retro forms.

Husqvarna specifically calls out the TFT display. Dominating the cockpit, its simple form contains multiple versions of interfaces depending on the riding condition and mode. Like the rest of the bike, it flirts the line between future and past.

Looks good, goes fast—how could you go wrong?

Of course, there are no technical details other than these pictures. However, if Husqvarna’s history is anything to go by, this could be a peek at the next model in its neo-retro line. Husky did have a previous aero concept, so this may even be a peek at how its design language may be changing as well. It is a little surprising though, that with the debut of KTM’s latest 790 engine this concept wouldn’t have a parallel twin hiding under the fairing.
